Connect the brand new iPhone to the dock.

iTunes will startup asking for activation, etc..

Unlock the keypad and you'll see the emergency call keyboard.

NOW click on the "iPhone" label in itunes ONCE and click again to change phone name.

Change it to whatever different from the one you see (iPhone by default).

This procedure works for sure on 1.0.2.

It doesn't seem to work on 1.1.1.

Maybe it could also work on early 1.0.
